Obedience Training

I have an 8-month old neutered male JRT. We've been to puppy school, which used positive reinforcement (praise and treats), and we are now in a novice class that uses a choke chain and leash corrections. While my dog has learned a lot and done very well in the novice class, I have chosen not to go any further in the class because I am not comfortable with the lessons from this point on (the lessons involve throwing a chain at your dog as a form of correction). Anyway, I am looking for another obedience class that will pick up where we are now and all I am hearing about is "clicker training". I've done the search on this site and read the posts. My question is: If I change to a third type of training, do you think it will be too confusing for my 8-month old dog?? We are at the level where we would start working on off-lead heel - he has learned and is proficient on the commands up to that point and we do not have any obedience problems with him. My dog LOVES agility and I want to start an agility class in March. From what I read, successful off-lead training is important for agility? What do you recommend for my situation?
