Question:

: We just moved into a new house a few days ago. Before we our stuff was moved in, I brought our 2 JRTS (4.5 yrs and 2 yrs) over a few times for them to get a "feel for the place." We brought a ball and played ball inside and out just like we did at our old house. Then the movers moved our stuff in and the dogs have done well. My problem is that it is like all of a sudden a switch went off and they now don't understand a word I say. I say sit, they get up. I say come, the run the other way. I say downstairs (which they already understand), they run and hide upstairs. It's like they have regressed. Are they just testing me or are they too excited with what's been going on to pay attention? They are driving me crazy! I get the feeling they enjoy it!!

Hi Jodi,

Well you had the right idea and your intentions we right on by bringing your two over to the new place. Chances are though they didn't think they were going to live there haha!

My guess is they are a bit stressed in the new environment. Make sure to get your normal routine back to as normal as possible. Dogs love routine and when their routine gets out of whack it can stress them for a time.

Many dogs will regress a bit when put into a totally new environment. And when you think about it I am sure your routine right now is just not the same as it was. Now they see you unpacking boxes and moving furniture around, etc.

Mine freak out whenever they see suitcases come out whether they are going with or not. It's just "different" than their normal everyday routine.

So the sooner you get them back into a normal schedule with you doing your usual normal things they should settle back down...and yes they probably are enjoying it hahaha! They are such stinkers!

Regards,
Marie
