Question:

: At the end of October I inherited my mother's 6 year old jack following her death. I already owned his 8 year old mother. My problem is that the new male, Rebel, has taken a strong dislike to a man who rents a third floor apartment next door. Both dogs bark at the people next door, but Rebel will not stop and he does it even when the man is not outside by standing by the corner of our fence on that side, looking up at the man's window and barking until I go an get him. Big problem - someone recently shot the dog with a pellet or bb gun- I strongly suspect it was this neighbor, but can't prove it. I suspect he has done something to the dog before to cause this persistent behavior. I have heard the man yelling outside about how much he hates the dog. I fear for the dog's safety. Can you give me some suggestions? At this point we do not let the dogs go out back without one of us out there to distract or grab him when he starts to bark. We have a picket fence and are considering some tall growing shrubbery in front of it to help block the view or a privacy fence.

Response:

Hi Suzi,

This is a tough problem because a JRT can get pretty obsessive. Have you considered re-homing this dog? I only mention it because it's obvious this dog is in danger of being harmed by some lunatic.

Marie
