Hi Brendan,

If you have left the house and returned, the dogs are obviously excited to see you. I have no idea how long the dogs are left alone during the day, but a JRT needs a lot of physical and mental stimulation. It's not unnatural for a dog to be happy to see their owners when they've been alone for several hours.

My dogs are always excited to see me, even if I've only been gone an hour. :o)

I'd teach them the "sit" command and use it when you come in the house. Praise the dogs when they sit and then get down on the floor and play with them for a while.
