| Question:
: : We have a 5 year old female JR. She is alone daily for about 9 hours because we both work. She has days where she leaves us no messes and others she does. We leave on the radio to talk programs to hopefully keep her company. We walk her at least one- two miles every other day to keep her exercised. It's a puzzlement because there can be days that we are gone longer than others and she leaves us no mess. We also are very careful to make sure that she has gone to the bathroom before we leave. : : 9 hours is a long time to expect a dog not to have to relieve themself. This is really not a housebreaking issue. : Is there any way someone can come home for lunch to ler her out? Maybe a friend, family member, or a pet sitter that can come once a day to make sure she gets some mental and physical stimulation along with getting to go out and do her business? : As I said, some dogs can go long hours without having to relieve themselves, but most can't handle 9 hours continually. : Jane Colvin
In addition to the great advice Jane gave you, I wanted to point out if you are free feeding your dog this can add to your problems. If you put your dog on a feeding schedule, it's much easier to regulate what is going to come out and when ;) My boys get fed twice a day, once in the morning and again in late afternoon. I can pretty much tell when they have to go out by doing this. Regards, |
