Question:

: I have read all there is to read about housevbreaking, but I am losing this battle...
: I adopted a 2-year old female who was supposedly housebroken.
: The first day there were no accidents, but for the past 4 days she constantly poops in the house.
: I take her out frequently, praise her when she goes potty, give her encouragement, but once we are back in the house she poops.. :(
: One thing I noticed, the poop outside is moist, foul smelling, the one I find in the house is very dark brown and dry (smells, but not as bad). I survey the house 100 times a day, so there is NO CHANCE I missed it and it became dry.
: Please help me...I am going crazy...I even had a thought that my carpet started pooping, not the dog :)

Hi Val,

Have you only had her for less than a week? If so, you'll need to give it more time.

Also, if she's pooping that often, a change in food might be needed. Feeding a high quality food will reduce the amount of waste significantly.

Are you free feeding her? Feed her on a schedule. A dog that eats on a schedule usually poops on a schedule. Feed her at the same time/times every day. If you can't trust her in the house, keep her where you can see her at all times. Put up a baby gate, put her on a leash, in an ex-pen or whatever it takes for you to be able to watch her every minute she's in the house.

Good luck,
