| Question: : Amazingly enough I just read your and advice regarding this issue. I have a similar problem, My JRT is 9 weeks old, I picked her last week. I picked the quietest, meekest, smallest and shyest of the litter...Don't ever let that fool you! She does not bite me, nor my 12 year old son, nor my 3 yr. old chihuahua, nor my cat (she barks at him), but she nips and bites (playing) my 9 year old son. Mainly because she knows she can get away with it?. She is constantly barking at the neighbors Rottweilers (sp?)... And constantly looking for things to play with...The question is: How can I teach her to listen to her "brother".
Have your son read the FAQ on nipping and biting and have him start to correct her. Please watch to make sure he is doing it correctly. He can also give her time-outs in a puppy-proofed area. They should last from 2-5 minutes with nobody peeking in at her. She needs to go to "puppy prison" and think about why she's there. This has to be done consistently every time she nips and bites. Also make sure to have appropriate items for her to chew on. Hand her one and when she takes it tell her what a good girl she is. Your son has to be involved in training this pup otherwise she will walk all over him. Regards, | |||
