Question:

: Hi,
: I currently have a 2-year old male JRT. I would love to adopt a rescued female. My problem - No Fenced Yard. I live in a pretty large, 1600 sq. ft. condo, and take my current dog on the nearby nature trails almost everyday.(Yes, even in the rain.) Although, he does have his moments, he is a well behaved dog and I believe he is getting enouugh exercise. Are there ever any exceptions to the fence rule? I hate knowing that I can provide a home for a neglected dog, but can not because of the lack of a fence.

Response:

Hi, Barbara,

The best thing to do is to contact the Russell Rescue rep closest to you and talk to them. Dogs are individuals, and you just never know if a rep might have a dog that would do okay in your circumstances. There are never any guarantees, but it won't hurt to talk directly to your rescue rep.

I'm pretty rigid about fenced yards, but I've known of some reps who have made exceptions to get a dog into a perfect home. The important thing is always the best interest of the dog.
