| Question: : I am being given a JRT if I choose to take her. A family is leaving the area where I live and cannot take their 1 yr old with them. They would be giving me this dog with all of its possessions. This dog has gone through basic training. It was suggested that I continue with agility training at some point. She is a very sweet dog. She was raised with children and a cat. She has had all her shots, she has been spade, she has a "chip" implant, and she has been electric fence trained. After reading your profiler I got a little concerned. I am supposed to pick her up tomorrow morning. It seems as though most of the hard work has been done. I am going to take her to work with me everyday, so that she will be with me basically at all times. I work for a university so there won't be a lack of people around for her to play with. She loves people and will definitely keep me in shape. I can take her for walks on campus at lunch everyday. I live in a small place but I am near the beach and I can take her for walks everyday. Does this sound like a good match to you? : Thanks,
I think you should be thankful that the previous owner took the time to do all the right things for your new terrier (i.e., training, shots, spay, etc). This puts you way ahead of most new owners who have to start from scratch. The profiler will illustrate what these terriers are capable of ... it does not say that they will definitely be that way. Every terrier and environment is different. Your new terrier and environment appear to have all the signs of success. You might want to go to an obedience class (they tend to train the owner and not just the dog) if you have some training issues. If you run into any problems, please drop back by our site and read thru all of our archives (search engine works best for this). If you can't find what you need, just ask us about it and we'll try to help when we can. Thanks and good luck to you and your new terrier! |
