Question:

: Last night, my Jack, whose name is JD, started to act really strange. He would cry if you attempted to pick him up. He was shivering as if he was afraid. He was walking fine, but would not jump up on the couch. If you held him on you lap, without even doing anything, he would suddenly squeal, run away and cower. He had been perfectly happy, playing fetch with myu husband only an hour before.

: He didn't and does not have an apparent fever. He was. and is eating fine, drinking fine. His bowel movement was OK both last night and this morning.

: He had been fine that morning. He continued acting strange until bedtime. I wrapped him in blankets around 9PM and he went to sleep. He slept on my bed the same way last night.

: This morning, he was still acting a little strange, but ate fine, relieved himself fine -- both bowels and urination, walked fine. I thought perhaps he had a bee sting.

: I put him in his cage and have an appointment with my vet at 7.

: Could it be arthritis? He broke his leg as a puppy, but he is only 2. It was damp, cold and rainy yesterday. I also thought of a bee sting or a pinched nerve or a strained muscle.

: The thing is, both my husband and daughter have seen lesser instances of this behavior over the past few weeks. However, when I check his abdomen, it is soft, and I can even poke it with no discomfort. I mention this because I thought he might have a bladder infection.

: I am taking him to the vet tonight, but I am not sure we will find anything -- I am not even sure what to look for.

: Please let me know if anyone has ever had a similar experience with a Jack.

: Thanks -- Johanna

Hi Johanna,

You have done the best thing, and that is to get your dog into the vet's office.

Dogs don't yelp in pain if there is nothing wrong with them. Only your vet will be able to determine what is bothering your dog.

Let us know the outcome!
