: Our female, which is a short legged JRT and is 9 months old, went into heat yesterday. Our question is, when is she the most fertile? We also have a 9 month old long legged male and didn't want to breed her to him at this time. We wanted to wait one cycle before breeding her. she has spent the day with him so are we too late?

Hi Barbara,

Females stay in heat for 28 days, so best to keep the two separated for at least a month.

I have no guess as to whether the two have bred...only you know.
