frequent pooping

I have two 10-year old JRTs (male and female). The male particularly seems to need to poop 3 to 4 times/day. Is this normal? Do you think this amount could be reduced by feeding a different food? They are on a no-additive diet (dry) lamb and rice for older dogs.

Also, when it's not particularly hot weather, do dogs needs access to drinking water all night?
