Question:

: I have a 4mth old Jack Russell, who is totally deaf. Could you give me advice on training methods and any other problems I may incure. She frets when left alone (only half hour each day).
: I have been unable to make contact with anyone who has owned, or trained a deaf dog.
: She was to be put down by the breader, because she wasn't financially viable.

Response:

Hi Molly,
I'll link you to a site below that will give you training information and links to the deafdogs email list. It has over 800 members, all who have successfully trained and raised deaf dogs. My deaf JRT turned 5 last Saturday. There are many other deaf JRT owners on the list, and I believe the oldest dog currently on the list (an Aussie) is 14. There are others, older, who have already gone to the Rainbow Bridge. If you go to google.com, and search for deaf dog, you'll find many private owner's sites as well.
You can also put the word deaf into the search box on this page to find answers to other questions on this subject. There have been many in the past. You'll also wan to check the FAQs and previous posts about crate training, housebreaking, etc-- basically all the info on this site. It will help you in rearing your pup, and you'll find that some whining when separated is normal for a pup adjusting to a new environment.
I have a general info email that I have compiled for owners over the years. I'd be happy to send it to you if you want to email me.
I seriously doubt your dog is albino. This condition is extremely uncommon in dogs. If your dog truly is albino, lacking in all pigment (including in the eyeball), you need to speak with your vet about the condition, and have other health problems you need to be mindful of.
Please feel free to contact me privately with questions. I'll be glad to help.
