: I have a male JRT Bobby who is almost 5 months old. I have found this site to be very helpful in bringing up my puppy. I'll have to admit the first week of having him was very challenging!. Luckily I am a stay at home mom. I have a three year old who has always been well behaved and they have been getting along well. I am planning to get him neutered in the next couple weeks and was wondering about the recovery period. The previous dogs I have had, bless their hearts, I adopted and were older and already neutered so I do not know what to expect after the procedure. Please give me a general idea as to what his behaviour may be like after the surgery.

Hi Colette,

Neutering is a pretty simple procedure so Bobby should bounce back in no time at all. You might expect to bring home a groggy puppy and the first day he comes home I sure would try to keep him as quiet as you can. He should be fit as a fiddle in a matter of days if not sooner, but make sure to discuss recovery with your vet.

Getting him neutered early should really help to keep him from marking territory, wise move!
