Newspaper in crate?Posted by: EvanCategory: House Breaking Posted on: May 29, 2002 at 16:37:31

| Question: It's down to the wire! I pick up my new puppy monday afternoon! Yeah!!! :) I think I have everything the little bugger could possibly want or need and I have read enough training books to choke a pig. BUT I'm still a bit concerned about this house training business. I did read a good deal of past questions but did not find what I was looking for. Here's the situation: Spooky (who is seven weeks old)will be on his own for two 4 hour stints a day in his crate. I have been told that this is too long for a puppy of his age to hold it. A friend of mine suggested that I newspaper the back of the crate in case he goes, thereby preserving his instict to not soil his bedding. Then remove the paper when he gets older. Is this a good idea? Or should I just leave him in there with his bedding and hope he doesn't soil it? And what if he does? I just want to do him right, and be a good parent. P.S. Thank you so much for this wonderful site!
