| Question:
: I lost my 3 yr old JRT last year in an accident. I have started thinking about getting another JRT from the same breeder. She has a 6 year old female who I met --she seems sweet. I wanted to get an older JRT because I want an already housebroken dog, which she is.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your other JRT, it is always a shock to lose them so suddenly. But I am glad to hear you are thinking of getting an older dog! Puppies have nothing on them, they will love you back as if you had raised them from a pup! Plus, you wise person, you have discovered that many come already housebroken! ;) Acclimation to her new home shouldn't take long. These guys can be little opportunists. If you have food, treats, toys and love, they usually never look back lol! Ask the breeder about this dog's routine and try to keep her somewhat on the same schedule. Dogs LOVE routine and the more you can keep to her old one the better her transition should go. What I would suggest is to enroll both of you in a small group obedience class. It's not only a great way of building a wonderful bond with your dog, but also an excellent way of socializing your dog to other dogs and people but with the luxury of a controlled setting. Good Luck! | |||
