Question:

: Hi I recently purchased a female Jack russell, her name is Maddi, today I noticed that her left ear is beginning to fall off to the back and to the side, so that when she is looking keenly at you you can see the pink inside of her ear. However, her right ear is a perfect "V shape". Neither of her parents displayed this trait , for that matter neither did she until today!!! She is only 7 weeks old is there anything I can do to encourage correctly positioned ears? Taping ? It is as though the cartiledge across the top of the ear is not as strong and is folding on itself. Please send me your comments! Thanks

Hi Janelle,

Puppies can do some strange things with their ears and at seven weeks yours still maybe cutting teeth, please don't worry about this untill the permanant teeth are in which is about 7 to 8 months of age.

Recessive traits that cause ears to flop or stand up, isn't just from the parents, it comes from all the dogs in both the parents pedigree.

As I said not to worry untill your puppy is older, they can and will do funny ears untill they get their adult teeth in.

Regards
Linda
