We do this for the safety and well being of our beloved Jacks. Who wants to come home and find their dog hanging from the mini blind cord? Because he heard someone/something in his yard or going down the street. I would be devastated and be on a gigantatic guilt trip for the rest of my life!

Yes I think you hit the nail on the head, I also crate to keep my dogs safe and I have a long line of distructo's!! Personally I would like to come home and find I still have a sofa, carpet, and walls. I have found in the last 18 years, that Jack Russells when left to their own devices always find something to get into! I guess you can sum it up by saying Expect the unexpected!!
Better to be safe than sorry and I will continue crating when I am away!
