| Question:
: My JRT is 12 weeks old. I have been trying to work out the basics of training with him according to the research I have done. Since Diesel is so smart he has discovered a trick. Sometimes we don't agree about when he should walk on the leash. If he doesn't want to he simply gets floppy legs. He lays on the ground and refuses to get up. When I try to stand him up he simply does not straighten his legs. It appears that he is laughing at me, I swear. Any advice on what I can do to encourage him to go with me? Treats and verbal praise do not seem to be doing the trick.
A 12-week-old pup is still very young and playful, don't expect too much at this point in time. Instead of trying to stand him up or giving him treats, call his name & walk away. Put him on a long leash and gently pull on it. I would suggest you look for a puppy obedience class when your pup reaches 4-6 months of age. Best,
