Question:

: Our Jack is 2 years old. she stays in her create during the day while we work (about 8 hours), but she "uses" her create and then lays in it or eats her poop. How can we get her to stop this. I have tried feeding her only in the morning or at nights - but she still continues to use her create. She is house broken and doesn't wet our bed when she sleeps with us at night. She has a towel in the create so i removed that to see if she would not use the create - she did it anyway. Needless to say she gets lots of baths.

: Thanks for your help.

Hi Debbie,
Most dogs can't hold it for 8 hours without going to the bathroom, they just aren't physically able too. I don't ask my dogs to stay in their crates for more than 6 hours and that is what out Crating FAQ reccomends Crate Training FAQ
During the day she is awake and at night she is asleep so the two can't be compared.

Either you need to find someone to come in and let her out during the day or find some type of doggie daycare for her to go too. If I am going to be away for more than 5 hours at a time, I have someone come in and let mine out. It is asking too much for most dogs to hold their bladder and bowels for this long. To put it bluntly, I don't ask my dogs to do anything that I can't do and I know that I can't hold it for 8 hours without a potty break!
