Question:

: We have had our new puppy for almost a week - she's about 10 weeks old. She has adapted to paper training very well and all in all, doesn't mind her crate. My concern is that we're moving into a new house next week. Will this be a major issue in terms of housebreaking? What is the best way to get her use to her new house?

: thanks!
: Joanne

Response:

Dear Joanne,

Since your puppy really didn't have time to get used to her first house, I don't see her having any major issues with being in another house. However, she should not have to deal with "moving day" (the stress, the noise, new people, the potential for her to escape) so I strongly recommend that you make arrangements to have a relative or a friend take care of her (with her crate) on the day of the move.

I suggest you take this opportunity of moving into a new house to train your pup to go potty outside, not inside on papers. Since you're training her to accept the crate, why not take advantage of the instinct to keep the "den" clean to house train her. Allowing a puppy to go potty on paper teaches her that it's okay to go potty IN THE HOUSE...

Good luck,
Leslie
