Inside the Crate

What should I be putting inside my wire crate for my little guy? He seems to have adjusted to it (thanks to your advice), and is using it frequently by his own choice. There is a pan underneath the crate, and I would just like to know if I should be putting something above the surface of the pan (the wire mesh part where he goes on top of). Should I be putting toys or food inside? Or possibly a blanket?
