Question:

: Our JRT (Coda) was outside for about 10 minutes. When she came back in, her face was very swollen, she vomitted, and was very lethargic. We took her to the Vet immediately, and they found a bite or sting on the bottom of her paw. They treated her and now she's fine. But we don't know if it was a bee sting or spider bite.

: My question has to do with treating our lawn to make it safer for Coda. Getting rid of the clover will help reduce the amount of bees, but what about spiders? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Response:

Hi Mike,
While we all want to keep our Terriers as safe as possible, anything that you used on your lawn to keep the clover out or keep the spiders away may do more harm to your terrier in the long run. I for one am very carefull about the chemicals that I use around my dogs, nothing at all really in their areas.

Sorry I just don't trust chemicals that are designed to kill, such things as clover, weeds, bugs, etc. unless the Garden centers can guarantee they are 100% safe and so far they can't. If you find something that your Vet and Garden specialists both agree on please let us know but my research has found nothing that really works.

Your best bet is just keep an eye on your Terrier when they are out to keep them as safe as possible, but other than that I don't have any 100% safe suggestions.

Regards
Linda
