Question:

: My wife and I are thinking of rescuing an approx 3yr female JRT. The foster home says she is wonderful with her other animals as well as children. She is also already crate trained. We would to continue to crate her until she get's used to our house. She will be home alone 6-8 hrs a day. Everyone tells me she will tear up our house when left alone. Is this true, and when I say everyone, I mean no one that has any experience with JRT's.

: Thanks, once we make a commetment to her, we want it to be for life.

Response:

Hi Glen,
IMO I think that you would be wise to keep her crated while away from home. I have two that I can leave uncrated but every once in a while when the mood strikes them they will distroy something so this is something I am aware of.

Jack Russells when left to their own devices can be very distructive when bored and it is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to crating. 6 hours if fine but I don't let any of my dogs stay crated for longer than that, because is is pushing their limits on Bladder control. If I am gone for more than 6 hours I make sure I have someone come in and let them out to go potty.

Best
Linda
