two jrt in one crate at night

I have two jrt one male 1.5 years and one female .5 years old . the male is fixed and they get along very well, playing togather all day. they often sleep togather when about the house. I want to know if it is ok to put them togather in the same crate at night. it is a large crate with plenty of room for both to be comfortable. I have done this a few nights with no aparent trouble. we do have two crates but if they seem to tolorate it is it a good or bad practice. also at what age is it recomended to have the female spayed as we do not plan to breed her? thanks
