| Question: : I have two jrt one male 1.5 years and one female .5 years old . the male is fixed and they get along very well, playing togather all day. they often sleep togather when about the house. I want to know if it is ok to put them togather in the same crate at night. it is a large crate with plenty of room for both to be comfortable. I have done this a few nights with no aparent trouble. we do have two crates but if they seem to tolorate it is it a good or bad practice. also at what age is it recomended to have the female spayed as we do not plan to breed her? thanks
I do not recommend that you ever put your terriers together in the same crate...especially not at night. There is a very big difference between snuggling with each other around the house and snuggling with each other in a crate; that difference is confinement. And if you're asleep, how will you know if there is trouble between them? Better to be safe then sorry -- let them have their own space when you cannot keep an eye on them. :-) In general, vets require a dog to be at least 6 months old before undergoing surgery. This age is very appropriate for female JRTs as they usually don't come into their first heat before then; spaying before sexual maturity is highly recommended. Regards,
