Question:

: Hello again,
: Now that our 16-week old girl had all her shots and is ready for the great outdoors, what is a good distance to start off with when we talk her on walks.

: Thanks

Response:

Hi Ruben,

This is one of those "play it by ear" situations. Until you observe how your little one deals with walking around in the great outdoors (on lead, exploration, dealing with the weather, etc.) I recommend you stay close to home.

Start by walking her back and forth in front of your home a couple of times and gradually increase the distance in every direction. Walking the same area may be boring but retracing your steps serves two purposes: (1) should your little one get tired/over-heated/scared, etc you're not far from home and (2) she learns where "home" is should she get loose.

How exciting this first walk will be for both of you! Have fun and let us know how it goes...

Best,
Leslie
