Question:

: My Jack Russell goes to the bathroom evey night under my bed. I take her outside right before bed she goes everynight and then every morning I have to move my bed and clean up another mess. She's over a year old and only goes in the house under the bed. What can I do to make her stop?

Response:

Hi Jessica,

I would first check to make sure there is no physical reason why she's doing this at night.

Remember too, that your first business in the morning is to grab your slippers and a robe and take your dog out. Just like us, many dogs when they first wake up need to go. Unlike us they don't understand why they need to hold it while you get ready for work/school etc so if you aren't getting this dog out first thing in the morning you should start to.

If you are letting her out on her own, you will need to start accompany her out and have her on lead so you know what she's doing. Many people assume that when they let their dog out, that the dog is going to do its business. Sometimes they do, and many times they forget that's why they're out there and are too busy sniffing and looking for stuff.

You need to clean the area she is peeing on with an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution.

You should talk with your vet and find out if it's okay to limit her water intake after 7-8:00PM don't do this on your own. Restricting water is serious business because you don't want your dog to get too dehydrated.

If all this fails then you will need to start crating her at night.

Regards,
Marie
