Hi Amy,
I have used Cayanne pepper in water and let it sit and then spay it on the wood and wires, but I can tell you that mine liked that too.

Try giving him subsitute to chew on, since he is starting to teeth. I learned a new trick and it may work for you also. I have always given my dogs frozen wash cloths only to have the shreaded in minutes but now I take a small rope toy and soak it in water and freeze it.
Mira loved this during her teething period and I am still using it since she is now cutting molars. The coolness soothes the gums and also help with the teeth coming in.

The best thing you can do is watch the puppy and not let him do the chewing and if you can't watch him Crate him and then give him something to keep him occupied.
