Question:

: Is it unrealistic to expect two female jacks not to fight? Also, if two girls in the same household fight with eachother, would they most likely fight with any other female as well?
: JRT's were bred to work together in a pack while hunting. Why is there so much fighting when they live together? I cannot accept that this is normal. I am looking for any advice that will help me train these girls "not" to fight. Thanks, lj
: ps. any advice on the proper way to break up a fight?

Hi LJ
Being in a house together and being in the hunt field are two entirely differnet things! That being said Jack Russells weren't breed to hunt in a pack, although they may go into the field with other females, they don't hunt in packs and they hunt on a one on one basis with the quarry. The are bred to run with a pack but that isn't they way the hunt and the pack per se are hounds not a pack of terriers.

That being said, you have a good case of same sex aggression, and if you don't keep the seperate, then you may end up with a badly hurt dog or bitch. Same sex aggression is well documented in this breed.
Sorry seperation is the only key once the fighting has begun and there isn't anything you can do to train them not too fight.

Sorry I don't have better news for you.
Best
Linda
