Acorns

Question:

I read all of the posts about acorns but I didn't find what I was looking for. I have 4 giant oak trees in my yard and they are starting to drop acorns. When I get home from work I go out and pick up most of the acorns. My JRT still gets a couple of them before I can get to them. My question is will a few hurt him and is the shell or the actual nut poisonous? He seems to eat more of the outer shells than the actual nut. Thanks in advance for your help.
