Question:

: I have a 5 month male Jack Russell as well as a new 8 month female Jack Russell both hate being left outside. We have a brand new large dog run, when we leave them in there together they just cry and bark to the point that the neighbors are calling. I have tried to make it comfortable and fun for them by putting their dog igloos with blankets and toys and their food but they still cry. When I leave them in the house while away they dont cry at all. How can I get them used to being in the kennel.

Response:

Dear Jaime,

While I appreciate that you've tried to make your pups comfortable and happy in their new dog run, I highly recommend that you reconsider leaving them outside unattended. Besides disrupting the neighborhood with their barking/crying, your pups are also prime targets for "anyone" looking to steal a dog(s) for "any" purpose. Also, the pups distress at being left alone outside will eventually lead them to try to escape their confinement; I assure you they will find a way out.

Keep the dog run if this is the fenced area where your pups can run around without being leashed. But please don't put them in it if you're not around to keep an eye on them, Jaime; there are just too many bad things that can happen. Better to be safe then sorry, yes?

Regards,
Leslie
