Question:

: My husband and I recently acquired our second JRT, after having an extrememly positive experience with our first, who is now 1.5 yrs. old. Our new JRT, is a little stubborn (not surprising) and a little more dominant (though not with the us, the humans) but still very lovable. However, the introduction of our new JRT seems to have made our first JRT sad and jealous. Do you have any advice on raising two JRT together? Our first is a female and the second is a male.

Response:

Dear Christine,

I understand what you mean regarding your "positive experience" with your first terrier. However, you guys really need to find a way to not compare your experience with your first terrier to what you are now experiencing with your second. Also, what we humans consider as sadness and jealousy should actually be considered as possessiveness and protection. While understandable, this does not make the behavior acceptable when applied to another canine (or human.)

Please refer to the FAQ (link below) and our search engine regarding specific information on raising two JRTs. Again, every JRT is different (!) so please take that into account when reading through the information.

Best,
Leslie
