Question:

: My JRT is a very sweet dog when we are alone in our house, but she is aggressive towards other dogs and strangers, so much so that I am afraid to invite new friends over. She has never bitten anyone, but I feel that it's only a matter of time.... Is my cause hopeless?

Response:

Hi Tereza,

No this is not hopeless, it sounds to me that your terrier is lacking in socialization. Socialization with this breed is a must and should be started as a young pup and continue into adulthood.

I would first recommend getting you and your terrier enrolled in a group obedience class where your dog will learn to interact with other people and dogs in a controlled environment. You can also talk with the trainer about this problem you are having at home and they should be able to help you out.

Also use our Go-to-Ground search, there are lots of previous posts that deal with this type of aggression.

Regards,
Marie
