Question:

: Hi there, my jrt Bear is a real cutie, 13 weeks old. we have the usual nipping and biting problems, which I'm hoping to overcome now that I've read your advice, but another big problem is that she starts to bark and whine in the mornings as soon as she hears us moving around.(She sleeps downstairs in the kitchen). As we get up at 6.30 in the morning, this is big problem, as she wakes up the neigbours. I would like to have her sleep upstairs, but she pees, and gets over-excited, and a bit manic when I take her upstairs. What can I do?

Response:

Hi Tamara,

A whining, barking 13 week old is a sign of a baby that needs to go to the bathroom. A big mistake people make is to wake up in the morning, take care of their OWN business and then go to take care of the puppy. Usually by this time the puppy has already soiled.

With a pup this young it's important to get it out as soon as you wake up. If you take her out and she can empty herself, chances are good the barking and whining will stop because you might even be able to let her upstairs then without worrying about her peeing.

You might also want to consider crating her, and that way she can be upstairs with you at night.

Regards,
Marie
