What Sex is best?

Question:

We have just lost our 1 year old female JR in a car accident and are soooo sad. She was part of the family.
I want to get another one soon and was wondering if we should get a male or female?
We live in the country, have grandsons visit, age 6 and 11, and have two other large dogs that our JR got along fine with.
