Question:

: We have just lost our 1 year old female JR in a car accident and are soooo sad. She was part of the family.
: I want to get another one soon and was wondering if we should get a male or female?
: We live in the country, have grandsons visit, age 6 and 11, and have two other large dogs that our JR got along fine with.

Response:

Dear Ron,

On behalf of the Forum volunteers, I extend our sincere sympathies to you and your family for the loss of your terrier.

Since every JRT is "one of a kind," it is impossible to say that one sex or the other will get along as well with your large breed dogs and your grandkids. As a general rule, we recommend the JRT be of the opposite sex as the dog(s) in the household.

I'm sorry, Ron, but due to the unique nature of the beast (!), I really can't give you a more definitive answer. Again, our condolences for the tragic loss of your little one.

Warm regards,
Leslie
