| Question: : Firstly I would like to thank you for a very informative site! I rescued my 18mth JRT a few months ago now and he is fitting in to our family very well. My 3yr old son adores him. I would however, like to know how long do JRT stay puppies for? He is quite good on the lead and slowly becoming obedient. I can still see that silly, cheeky puppy stage in him (mind you, its often quite cute), and am wondering how long this will last? : Regards
Technically, a JRT is an "adult" when he/she is one year old. The end of puppyhood (as in obedient, settled down, etc) is not so easy to define as this breed is known to exhibit a "silly, cheeky" attitude thru out their lives. In my opinion, this is part of what makes this breed so unique and frankly, I am thrilled when my 9 1/2 year old terriers don't "act their age" -- LOL! The best thing you can do for your terrier is to NOT consider his age as a factor in his training; patience and consistency are far more valuable lessons. :-) Warm regards, |
