| Question: : We have a 2-yr. old JR, not neutered. He was a stray and has not been claimed. He really doesn't like other dogs and, as others have said, goes nuts when he sees them. Yesterday, he picked a fight with a dog running loose and slipped his collar. We were able to separate them (finally) with no injuries to either dog. We're going to get him fixed and sign him up for obedience classes but until then, if he picks a fight, what's the best way to break it up? It was really scary. Thanks for any help.
I have to say that the best thing you can do right now until you get this guy neutered and trained is to find a collar he cannot slip out of. Breaking up dog fights is risky and dangerous business and one that we can't tell you how to do because each incident is different and what might work in one situation may not work in another, so the best course of action is to avoid getting in that situation to begin with. If you feel a situation is might happen it's best to just get him out of there. I can tell you this though, don't ever put your hand in there while they're fighting because your hand is likely to become hamburger. And you're right, dog fights are scary! Thanks for taking in a terrier in need. Regards, |
