Question:

This is actually a response to Brandy's question on 10/30 and another related question today - if a response is ok. I wanted to write because, believe me, I have felt (and sometimes still feel) your pain! If it was not for this forum and the fact that Katie is so darn cute, she would not still be with us. Brandy described our situation to a "T" - almost exact. We had the same issues and what it took for us to move past them was truly realizing how much of a schedule we were NOT on. At least our Katie needs a VERY strict schedule. We would take her out consistently, but the times would vary by a half hour or so or on the weekends we wanted her to realize you sleep in on Saturdays - but she needs a STRICT schedule and since we are the humans we have had to adjust. Also, I found I was getting frustrated and I think she could sense it and would hold it outside because she was afraid. I think they can pick up on our feelings so whenever we are outside we make sure the least frustrated person goes out and she always is on a leash and must "sit" if she tries to play. Hang in there - one day it will work itself out. Katie is now 9 months and about 85 - 90% of the time she does her business outside and each week gets a little better, so occassionally slip backs, but we are accepting this is the nature of this breed. Good luck!
