Question:

: Regarding the Bizarre Behavior post on the one JR scratching the other's legs: My 7 month old JR does that to me when I am scratching his back. He goes up and down my arms with his teeth, occasionally he pinches me, but is usually very careful. I have seen horses do this, standing head to tail, as a grooming/bonding exercise. I was also curious about the behavior but figured it was probably something similar. My JR is the first dog I have seen do this too, so if anyone knows the answer to the mystery scratching question, I'd love to hear it!
: Also, I'd like to take this moment to tell all of you JRTCA volunteers THANK YOU!! This site is wonderful and as a first time JRT owner you have been invaluable in educating me in understanding my little guy. He is well adjusted and seems to be quite happy. He charms everyone he meets. I'll probably be a JRT owner for life now. :)

Response:

Dear Lindsay,

Interesting explanation -- I think it's possible that "nibbling" is a sign of affection/care between terriers or between terriers and their owners. Thank you for sharing your experience.

On behalf of the other volunteers, thank you for your kind words. It is wonderful to hear that what we do is making a difference in the lives of Jack Russells and their owners.

Warm regards,
Leslie
