Question:

: My female JR who will be three years old in April, has recently begun acting peculiar. All of her fuzzy stuffed animal toys she is carrying around and whining. She is making what looks like a nest with them; she wants to bring them to bed with my husband and me at night. When we are watching TV she starts piling them up on our laps and licks them~ we have recently started remodeling our house and things are not at all the norm around here. Could she be reacting to that? Could she be pregnant? (Which should be very unlikely?) Could it be a desire to have pups? She has never been bred. Otherwise, she seems fine!

Response:

Hi Jan,

Routines that are upset can manifest in abnormal behavior, because if there is one things dogs love, it's routine.

I would first have her checked by your vet, as she may be experiencing a false pregnancy. This can happen in an intact female that is not pregnant.

If a false pregnancy is ruled out, then she might be upset that her routine is not quite the same.

Regards,
Marie
