| Question: : My female JRT, Maris, cut open one of her rear footpads on July 4th of this year. The cut healed within a few weeks and she has continued to limp around (will not put that leg down) for 4 months! The cut is completely healed, and she only does it at certain speeds--i.e., she only limps when she is trotting very slowly or running quickly, but not in between. People have told me she has gotten into the "habit" of limping, but she only does it at certain speeds (maybe 30% of the time). Any insight? Thanks!
The trauma to Maris's footpad may have extended to the bones in her foot as in broken/fractured toes. You should also consider that her limping may have caused the entire leg to be "off" -- ask your vet to check out her knee/hip/lower spine for any alignment problems. Good luck, |
