Question:
: Hi,
: I have a 8 year old female JR and she weighs about 20lbs (she has always been a little overweight). A couple of monthes ago I noticed a semi large round lump to the left of her stomach. The lump is in her insides (nothing on the outside of her skin)and it feels like half of a small tennis ball in size.
: I took her to the vet and they x-rayed her stomach and her and it's not in her stomach. The vet really can't tell me what it is. She seems to think it might be a fat deposit(my dog has a couple of fat deposits near her back) but is not positive. She said she can do a biopsy but that worries me as I heard things can go wrong when a dog sedated or anesthetized. I asked her what she would do if it was her dog and she said she would not do a biopsy right now and that she would not worry about it unless it changes in size or her behaviour changes.
: Is this just something some JR's get or should I do the biopsy? Or should I take her to a different vet for a second opinion?
: Thanks, Tony
Response:
Dear Tony,
I would request a referral to an internal medicine specialist. These vets have the latest diagnostic equipment (sonograms, etc.) and treatment options for their speciality.
Best of luck,
Leslie
