I am posting your question in hopes someone out there has had the same experience with their young JRT.

With all due respect to the vets at the University -- have you considered getting a second opinion from any other orthopedic specialists? I understand that they can't give any guarantees but like you, I'd prefer a bit more information before taking such a big step.
