Question:

: Last week,Suzy my little Jack Russell bitch gave birth to 8 puppies, though today when i returned home from work i found she had passed away,I guess the strain of pregnancy and rearing the pups had been too much for her little body to cope, she was 15 months old and little more than a pup herself and had become pregnant during her first season, much to my dismay.

: The pups are now 8 days old and their eyes are still closed,i am doing as best i can by feeding them with cows milk for now, though any advice regarding what i should be feeding them in the absence of their mother would be gratefully appreciated as i am feeling lost right now.

: Thankyou in advance.

Response:

Hi Robert,

So sorry to hear about the loss of Suzy. Please contact your vet ASAP and consult with him/her to find out how exactly to rear these pups. I am sure cow's milk is not what you should be feeding them, it may do them more harm than good.

I would think there would be special formula to feed these pups. Please call right now! You risk losing all your pups if you don't.

Regards,
Marie
