Question:

: I have a 7 month old female JRT. My husband and I play with her frequently and she gets two walks a day. Recently she has begun to bark, whine, nudge, go to the door, etc. in an attempt to get us to play. We try telling her not to bark, we have ignored her, and tried other various tricks but nothing is working. Any suggestions or ideas as to why she is doing this.

Response:

Dear Marni, I suspect that this is your first Jack Russell ! Such behavior is the norm, not the exception. Jacks love to be the "Master of Ceremonies" where play is concerned. They will bat a newspaper out of your hands, toss a ball at you repeatedly, and drop a toy on your hand or face, if you're sleeping, til you respond, joining in play time. Its simply a breed characteristic. Most Jack owners love it, even though it can be annoying at the wrong time. Jacks just can't go into a vegetative mode. Your little gal is going to continue insisting on being part of your life 24/7. You'd best get used to it, and enjoy it.

Best of luck. Carol
