Question:

: Hi my new puppy had a gorgeous ear set up until yesterday. It now alternates between being a tulip ear and being a rose ear...it's all wild and out of control. He just turned 14 wks; do you think it may be related to teething? All his ancestors that I have seen have beautiful button ears. A friend recommended taping, does that work? Thanks.

Response:

Frances -

Yes, most likely that condition is related to teething. Most "home remedies" I've heard about for correcting ear set don't really work in the long term. Taping may make the ears stay down in the short term but I don't think it necessarily has impact on the long term ear set.

After teething is completed, the ear set will either return to its pre-teething look or will remain as is now. I wouldn't worry about looking for a solution to change what nature has already determined. If all of his ancestors have button ears it is likely that he will have the same (given some time).

Good luck
Rick
