: I have a 4 year old jack russell, named Magnolia. She always seems to be cold, or at least that is what I am taking it as. Could it be something else that is making her get the shakes all the time? It just seems as when she is laying around or when she gets really excited she trembles, sometimes it gets so bad I have to hold her tight. I was just wondering if I should investigate further.

Dear Ashley,

Dogs "shake" for a variety of different reasons; excitement is certainly one of them! Magnolia could be chilly or she could be anxious (afraid), "bubbling over" with energy or in pain.

I'd investigate further, Ashley, starting with a trip to the vet. It will be helpful if you can provide your vet with the circumstances surrounding the times she's laying around and trembling.
