clipping nails ...

Question:

hello, i have one quick question ... i bought nail clippers for my petey so i do not have to go to the vet every other week to have his nails clipped ... i was shown how to clip them and have been sucessful ... the only question i have is if i accidentally clip too close and the nail starts to bleed b/c i nipped the vein, what do i do? how do i stop the bleeding and clean the wound? i pray this never happens, but just incase, what should be done. thank you in advance for your response.
